The city of Brno in the Czech Republic has been a home to firearms manufacturing for a long time, including handguns, Mauser pattern rifles, rimfire rifles, and machine guns.
As some of you know Denny passed away the Summer He was one of the recognized experts for all things having to do with BRNO firearms, and was often found in online forums helping with any questions.
See our selection of BRNO rifles. The Brno plant continued with Mausers and similar. Then WWII happened. Germany took all control of Czech weapons production to make firearms for the Wehrmacht.
More on that below. A governmental decision was made that all guns made or exported from Czech territory would be marked with the BRNO name and logo for the sake of marketing unity, regardless of which factory made them. This is a cause of confusion for modern day shooters made their BRNO marked gun.

The Brno factory continued with non-firearm products such as tractors…. In the Strakonice plant handgun production continued longer, and then began moving mostly to CZUB as well. It is thought that by firearms production had moved entirely out of the Brno plant. Then came and the end of Soviet style communism.
The de-centralization and privatization of factories in the new Czech Republic began, and by CZUB had become a private firearms manufacturing corporation. What follows is a primer on this interesting subsection of Czech firearms. Model 1 rifles are the original first design from Limited production appears to have begun in late or early The Model 1 had a wide open ejection port, flip-up leaf sight, a safety on top of the bolt, and a fairly simple trigger although variations exist.
They are basically Model 1 pattern rifle, and opinions vary on its meaning. One is that TGF was the German factory code during wartime and the guns were made in for the German military. Model 2 rifles began in and had a more sophisticated trigger, vent holes on the bolt, a narrower ejection port, a tangent sight, and a safety on the side of the bolt. Model 3 rifles are a heavy target version of the Model 1 pattern.
They have a long heavy barrel, more advanced rear sight attached to barrel grooves, or peep sight on the receiver, a heavy bench stock, and a globe front sight. Also called the ZKM They were considered extremely accurate. Walther complained of patent infringement and the rifle were dismantled. They are also called the ZKM S. The second largest city in the Czech Republic is Brno. It is the home of the Zbrojovka Brno factory, which has been manufacturing goods as diverse as tractors and typewriters, as well as firearms, for over a century. Although the light-machine gun designed there in the s and later produced under license in the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield, became a mainstay of the British Army as the Bren taking its name from the first two letters of each factorymention Brno to any shooter and they will almost inevitably think of inexpensive, unpretentious and totally dependable hunting rifles.
While Brno other model numbers were popular, it is the Brno Model 2 or ZKM that really caught the attention of shooters in Britain. Intended to update and refine the original Model 1, production started in and continued until aroundwith a few minor changes to the basic design and a name change to the CZ Owners of a more modern CZ.
Certainly, the rifle pictured shoots as well today as it did when purchased second-hand some 30 years ago and is still in regular use for pest control duties and target practice. The Model 2 was offered in other rimfire calibres but is best known as a."CZ 455 & 452: Half MOA .22s" by Nutnfancy [Full Review]
The military style tangent sight, rather optimistically marked for range settings out to m, is functional but most users today may want to remove it to accommodate a telescopic sight mounted as low as practicable.
Modern scopes tend to have much larger objective bells than earlier models, so this little extra space may be valuable. The job is easily done, if a little fiddly, and involves depressing then sliding the leaf.
There is sufficient space in front of the foresight to accept threading but it would be necessary to remove the foresight completely if you wanted to fit a model that sleeved back. When looking at any pre-owned rifle that has been used with a moderator, make sure that you check the crown and bore carefully. A previous owner might have stored the rifle with the moderator still fitted, resulting in corrosion and pitting.

The most clamping force on the market. A single expansion chamber and an array of ports with a closed off bottom for compensation provide maximum recoil control. Highly efficient reverse venting design reduces recoil and blowback while eliminating muzzle jump.
This not only provides maximum recoil reduction but also reduces the torsional recoil force associated with heavy bullets and fast twist rates. High pitch diameter tolerance class 3B threads machined in the same operation as the bore ensures a perfect concentricity, this combined with a progressively decreasing baffle thickness and maximized venting area significantly reduce bullet flight disturbance resulting in less yaw, higher BC, and improved accuracy.

It seems a European gun dealer asked Brno-CZ to build him a very special 22 Rimfire bolt action rifle.
Why a 29 inch barrel? I have no idea. The order was for to of them, when CZ was ready to deliver the order, the buyer refused the sale. So CZ dropped them on the American market very quietly, and I was auspicious enough to get one. Wish I had gotten two, it turned out so good.666 join in germany
One of the things about the CZ with the 24 inch barrel, either the continental style or the American They just try hard to group in very small clusters with any ammo you feed it.
The CZ is a miniature Mauser. Even the battle sights are miniaturized.
But these little jobs are just the ticket for this little rifle. These are clip fed rifles, that hold five rounds nicely. Very tight. So I accurize the ammo to. The 1-in twist also is different than the American standard of 1-in I checked both rifles twice, the twists in both is 1-in inches.
Because Europe uses millimeters and not inches, that may be the reason. The back sights are, as mentioned, miniature battle sights on the barrel with a barrel band that looks almost integral to the barrel. But They are adjustable for both height and windage And they give readings to yards.
Now none of us are going to shoot anything with a 22 Rimfire out to yards. But just to see how well they were regulated Using the scribe points on the sights. We really had to be careful with hold, sighting off the bench with the yard settings It was a large group but it was a group and centered on the plywood.
The front sight is not the old battle sight. It is a modern target type and hoodedBuilt as a last hurrah to thethe Grand Finale has upgraded wood, hand-engraved metalwork and more.

What the heck is a BRNO, you ask? Both Czech, of course, but not quite the same. At one time they were separate companies, then part of the same company, then separate companies, again.
BRNO is no more, though, officially shutting down in or so. For instance, here we have what you might mistake for a CZ Trainer, but not quite the same gun upon closer inspection.
It's the BNO 2 E, made in Picked it up at a gun show, today, at a great price by trading off some Encore barrels and parts and partly because the seller had no idea what a BRNO was. Has the tangent rear sight like the CZ, but it's finished a bit nicer. Also has the elevation adjustable front sight that slides up and down the ramp. The action is the same as the CZ, so went to work on the trigger and now have an exquisite open sight shooter, for use from the bench or a standing position.
Will do a range report ASAP, but have little doubt as to how this one will shoot. Last edited by north country gal; at PM. That is a nice looking rifle. I have one BRNO. Never got around to ordering one and I'm kicking myself ever since. Very interesting. Yeah, if only we could go back and buy some of those guns when we were younger. I bought a CZ 52 that way. Still have it but don't shoot it much. It was designed after the K98 inhence the name.
So when do we get a range report on your new BRNO? Range report coming first of the week. Headed to an estate auction, tomorrow, so probably won't do any shooting. Originally Posted by north country gal.
